I've always wanted to do something original, something unique; and I always believed that music has been one of the most rewarding things to make and share with people.
I started releasing music and posting on social media under the name "The Gas Panic". However I wasn't using the standard methods and ethics of promotion to get heard. I didn't want to follow the highly uncreative rulebook of basic promotion and so I sought to gather reactions from people using shock and confusion tactics, which created both positive and negative results.
I was always experimenting with people. Not in an attempt of manipulation, but as curiosity to see the beauty and common effect of certain reactions.
Am I losing you? Basically, I was infatuated with invoking genuine confusion in people.
I did this in a number of ways:
I made the page as personal as possible whilst still leaving the identity of the band a secret. For example, I once posted pictures (that I had googled) of an unkept garden that was overgrown, full of litter and upturned chairs. I captioned it as if a member of the band was sitting in this garden having fun with their girlfriend and enjoying the sunshine.
I'm Definitely Losing You
The point of this was to create an audience of people who were "In on the joke". The posts were made so that it could be taken as mundane nothingness, whilst other people who were confused enough to think about it would get the subtle joke... At least I thought it was subtle.
